This Engineering Bulletin is practical general guidance. Confirm the selected equipment, OEM instructions and site-specific risks before installation or maintenance.
Start with a repeatable operating baseline
A useful maintenance programme begins before a fault appears. Record the normal suction and discharge pressure, flow, motor current, bearing temperature, vibration and noise for each duty point. Those readings become the reference that helps a technician spot drift early.
The baseline should state which pump is on duty, which unit is on standby, the valve positions and the operating condition at the time. A single number without context is rarely enough to diagnose a changing system.
- Log pressure, flow and current at a consistent load.
- Record vibration and temperature trends, not isolated readings.
- Note leaks, unusual noise, odour, corrosion and repeated trips.
- Confirm that standby equipment runs on a planned rotation.
Use a layered inspection routine
Daily or shift inspections should be quick and visual. Weekly and monthly checks can look deeper at couplings, guards, lubrication, cable condition, fasteners and control-panel alarms. Planned shutdowns are the right time for alignment, wear measurement and internal inspection.
Manufacturer intervals remain the controlling reference. The site routine should complement the correct OEM manual, operating history and risk profile rather than replacing them.
- Keep the pump and motor area clean enough to reveal fresh leakage.
- Inspect seals, bearings, couplings, guards and foundations.
- Check motor ventilation, cable entries, earthing and protection settings.
- Use approved spares and record every intervention against the asset.
Escalate changes before they become failures
A rising vibration trend, falling flow at the same speed, increasing current or recurring blockage is a reason to investigate the system—not simply reset it. The cause may sit upstream or downstream of the pump: intake condition, valve position, air ingress, pipe losses or a changed liquid can all move the duty point.
Liquidflow can help turn operating records into an inspection scope, spares list and planned-maintenance programme for single pumps or multi-site fleets.
