Design from the tested borehole—not the casing size alone

Pump selection should begin with the sustainable yield, pumping water level, drawdown, total dynamic head and required daily volume. The borehole diameter tells you what can physically fit; it does not tell you what the aquifer can reliably supply.

A complete duty brief also includes the delivery elevation, pipe length and diameter, storage arrangement, water quality, power availability and expected operating hours. These inputs help avoid an oversized pump that cycles excessively or draws the borehole beyond its sustainable yield.

  • Provide the drilling and pump-test records.
  • Confirm static level, pumping level and tested yield.
  • Calculate elevation and pipe-friction losses to the discharge point.
  • State the required volume per day and preferred pumping window.

Treat power, protection and monitoring as part of the system

Long cable runs, variable grid conditions and remote sites can affect the motor as much as the hydraulic duty affects the pump. Confirm voltage, phase, generator or solar configuration, cable length, starting method and protection requirements before ordering.

Dry-run protection, level monitoring, surge protection and a clear installation record make troubleshooting faster. Plan for climate resilience and long-term operation

Groundwater projects in South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia and Botswana benefit from combining production boreholes with monitoring, storage and the correct water-supply infrastructure. Monitoring matters because groundwater conditions and demand can change long after commissioning.
